Welcome to the Kaiser Oakland Residency website. Our residents
thrive in our supportive and community-based academic program
that stresses respect for individual goals in the unique setting
of a non-profit integrated health plan where physicians have
complete control over all patient care decisions. When I meet
with our graduating residents, all report the patient diversity,
the friendly atmosphere and the excellent teaching as reasons
they enjoyed training with us. Come see what we are about
and explore the possibility of joining our program.
Program Director Bio
I have cared for HIV-infected patients since 1984, seeing
my first patient while still a resident. In 1986, I began
at San Francisco General Hospital as Medical Director of Inpatient
AIDS Services where I initiated the AIDS consultation service
and helped train medical students and residents from around
the world. I also served as the Co-Director of the Introduction
to Clinical Medicine Course while at the University of California
San Francisco.
In 1993, I joined Kaiser Permanente and have enjoyed practicing
both general and HIV-medicine. I have served as the Clinical
Leader of the Kaiser Permanente Regional Clinical Practice
Guideline for the treatment of HIV-infected persons.
My experience as Program Director has been a true professional
honor and I view the responsibility I have to my residents
and the program as my primary career focus. Our mission is
to create outstanding internists; individuals who will have
a lifetime of learning and practice of the art of medicine.
In taking a personal interest in every resident, I hope to
allow young physicians the opportunity to fully realize their
professional goals.
