Internal Medicine at Oakland

Rotation Schedule

13 four-week blocks occur over 12 months.

Three weeks of vacation each year is taken during elective rotations.


Categorical Intern Year
½ day weekly Continuity Clinic
5 blocks- General Medicine Wards
4 blocks- Elective/Subspecialty/Research Rotations
½ block- Outpatient Cardiology/Catheterization Lab
½ block- Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation/Geriatrics
2 blocks- Critical Care/Coronary Care Unit
1 block- Night float

Preliminary Intern Year
½ day weekly clinic
5 blocks - General Medicine Wards
5-5½ blocks – Elective/Subspecialty/Research Rotations
2 blocks - Critical Care/Coronary Care Unit
½-1 block- Night float


½ day weekly Continuity Clinic
3 blocks – General Medicine Wards
4½-5 blocks – Elective/Subspecialty/Research Rotations
2 blocks – Ambulatory Medicine (including 4 weeks of Orthopedics)
1 block – Cardiology
1 block – Critical Care/Coronary Care Unit
1-1½ blocks- Night float


½ day weekly Continuity Clinic
2 blocks – General Medicine Wards
5 blocks – Elective/Subspecialty/Research Rotations
1 block – Critical Care/Coronary Care Unit
2 blocks – Medicine Consult/Emergency Room
3 blocks – Ambulatory Medicine
