About Oakland
|
Oakland
is a bustling, diverse metropolitan city just 10 miles from
San Francisco and adjacent to Berkeley. It offers the best of
both worlds - the cultural opportunities of an urban environment
and uniquely beautiful natural parks and open space. The climate
is temperate with mild winters and abundant sunshine. The
East Bay Regional Parks
encompass 59 parks with more than 91,000 acres for hiking, running,
swimming, and other outdoor activities. The wine countries of
Napa and Sonoma are
a short and scenic drive from Oakland. For the adventurous,
Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National
Park, and the Sierra Nevada mountains provide spectacular
weekend getaways for skiing, hiking, camping, and outdoor recreation.
Closer to home, the Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center
is within walking distance to Piedmont
Avenue which boasts numerous restaurants and shops.
|
Oakland is home to several professional sports teams: the Oakland Raiders of the NFL, the Golden State Warriors of the NBA, and the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball. Jack London Square offers fine dining and shopping, and every Friday Oakland hosts a Farmer's Market down 9th Street.
We understand the personal and academic demands of residency
training and encourage residents to form bonds outside of the
hospital setting. Organized social events occur every two or
three months and include picnics, sporting events, and an annual
wine tasting. In addition, residents frequently meet in smaller
groups to see movies, have dinner, and socialize. |
