Rotation Schedule


13 four-week blocks occur over 12 months: three weeks of vacation each year is taken during elective rotations. There's also an additional week from June 24th - June 30th of the intern year.

PGY 1

Categorical Intern Year
½ day weekly Continuity Clinic
5 blocks – General Medicine Wards
3½-4 blocks – Elective / Subspecialty / Research Rotations
1 block – Cardiology (*at San Francisco General Hospital / UCSF)
½ block – Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation / Geriatrics
2 blocks – Critical Care/Coronary Care Unit
½-1 block – Night float

Preliminary Intern Year
½ day weekly clinic (hospital discharge follow-up and urgent care patients)
5 blocks – General Medicine Wards
5-5½ blocks – Elective / Subspecialty / Research Rotations
2 blocks – Critical Care / Coronary Care Unit
½-1 block – Night float

PGY 2

½ day weekly Continuity Clinic
3 blocks – General Medicine Wards
4-4½ blocks – Elective / Subspecialty / Research Rotations
½ block – Palliative Medicine / Geriatrics
1 block – Ambulatory Medicine (including 4 weeks of Sports Medicine/Musculoskeletal Clinic)
1 block – Cardiology
2 blocks – Critical Care / Coronary Care Unit
1 block – Night float

PGY 3

½ day weekly Continuity Clinic
2 blocks – General Medicine Wards
5 blocks – Elective / Subspecialty / Research Rotations
1 block – Critical Care / Coronary Care Unit
1 block – Medicine Consult
1 block – Emergency Medicine
3 blocks – Ambulatory Medicine
