Podiatric Surgery Training Philosophy 
- The podiatric resident will develop advanced surgical techniques in forefoot, rearfoot, and ankle surgery, assessment of the indications for surgery, performance of surgery, and post-operative care of the patient.
- The resident will develop the ability to independently medically
manage acute perioperative patients, learn indications for medical
consultations, and interact with medical consultants.
- The resident will learn the management of acute care of both
inpatient and outpatient infections and work with infectious disease
consultants.
- The resident will become competent in emergency room consultations
and trauma management in an acute care setting. The Resident is
responsible for first call in the emergency room five out of seven
nights per week and at least every fourth weekend. This includes
being on-call, at least, for any major foot trauma which requires
consultation in the emergency room.
- The resident will be exposed to a broad clinical base of foot
and ankle problems and will develop independence in the management
of a patient load.
- The resident will be exposed to general orthopedic technique and procedures.
