What our graduates are saying:

"When choosing where to do my residency training, I was impressed by the IM program at Kaiser San Francisco for a number of reasons. The program provides a supportive learning environment, yet rigorous clinical training and high-quality teaching conferences. The faculty are top-notch: this is a great place to work and a wonderful city to live in, so the hospital attracts the best. After graduating, I was lucky to nab a spot as staff in the department of hospital medicine. I get a lot of enjoyment out of my job because of the tremendous patient variety, the teaching opportunities with housestaff, and the cameraderie amongst my colleagues. It's a great place to be!"

Alison McClain, MD
Class of 2006: Hospital Based Specialist, Kaiser San Francisco Hospital

“I had a wonderful experience during my residency at Kaiser Permanente Foundation Hospital in San Francisco. I saw a wide diversity of patients including many rare diseases. Kaiser’s reputation is top-notch and their focus on prevention appealed to my own philosophy of medicine. My mentors were phenomenal teachers and the system facilitated a great deal of controlled autonomy. They were also very serious about keeping a healthy balance between work and family and worked hard to stay well within the work-hour restrictions. In addition, the new electronic medical record system really helped facilitate efficiency. I honestly feel as though Kaiser prepared me well for my fellowship in medical genetics at UCSF and has allowed me to ‘Thrive’ in my medical career! In all, I am proud to tell people that I trained at Kaiser Permanente! Thank you!”

Jonathan Holt, DO
Class of 2005, Genetics Fellow, UCSF

"As for training at Kaiser-SF, I thought it was a great experience. Lots of complex cardiology patients, post-operative heart surgery patients, etc. Good side-by-side working relationship with all the
cardiologists. I honestly think that I entered fellowship with a lot more organizational and practical experience than many of the other fellows I work with...Kaiser has an excellent database and I would encourage the residents there who are interested in fellowship to tap into that resource and generate some papers."

Esther Shao, MD
Class of 2002: Cardiology Fellow, UCLA

"Would I recommend this program? Internship and residency are tough anywhere, but the combination of approachable and supportive senior staff with the camaraderie of fellow residents, make it both enjoyable and educational. Adding the incredible cultural and recreational diversity of the Bay Area to this mix makes for a truly unique place to work. If these things appeal to you, then I would recommend it without reservation. On a personal level, my experience here has provided the ideal springboard to pursue my interest in Cardiology; I was able to conduct research during my residency and successfully secured a fellowship position here in San Francisco"

Rajbir Sangha, MD
Class of 2002, Cardiology Fellow, CPMC
