Internal Medicine at San Francisco
Meet Our Residents
| Kevin
Woolf, MD, Chief Resident
Originally from Southern California, I graduated from the
University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine
after completing my undergraduate degree at the University
of California, San Diego. I moved to San Francisco in 2004
to begin my residency training at Kaiser. Kaiser-San Francisco
has given me the opportunity to train in a very supportive
and flexible environment. In addition to fantastic core internal
medicine training, I have been able to perform and publish
research and pursue a career in cardiology. The support of
the program directors has been outstanding, and the expert
clinical faculty is dedicated to teaching. Combine all of
this with a tight-knit, fun-loving group of residents and
you have a remarkable residency.

What our residents
are saying:
I am really glad I came to Kaiser SF for residency.
When my husband chose to come to the Bay area for his graduate
work, I looked at all the options and found that this was
the best fit. Our Kaiser residents are a lot of fun. Most
people like to hang out together outside of work, and it's
a really great community atmosphere in general. While you
should expect to work hard (really hard) during your residency,
you should also expect to enjoy most of it. Our call schedule
gives people a lot of flexibility, and there's even a new,
shortened weekend schedule for ward teams.
What is unique to us? There are some excellent
teaching faculty including subspecialists who interact with
residents and interns on a daily basis as inpatient consultants.
Having a non-teaching service and really great social workers
and discharge planners enables us to get more educational
value from our wards experience. There is plenty of elective
time and a variety of elective opportunities. This January,
I am going to a hospital in Kenya to study tropical and HIV
medicine for three weeks.
My favorite part of Kaiser SF has to be the
Bay Area itself. I love the beach and Muir Woods, the shopping,
the weather, the restaurants, and somehow we found time in
my intern year to go skiing in Tahoe.
-Katie Cook, PGY-2
"Why did I choose KSFO?
- Can't beat living in San Francisco
- A community hospital that feels like a large family
- No hierarchy in the hospital, easy to talk to consultants
without intimidation
- Beautiful weather: next to the beach, next to skiing,
next to wineries, next to the mountains and camping, close
to rafting, and so much more...
- Great job opportunities through Kaiser hospitals that
span coast to coast, from Hawaii and California, to Washington
DC.
- Some of the best benefits that exist out there (also
great retirement plan)
- One of the highest resident salaries in the country"
- Navid Shafaee, PGY-3
