Obstetrics & Gynecology at San Francisco
Our Faculty
Robin
Field, MD - Program Director
I was born and raised in Oklahoma and I received my medical degree
from Baylor College of Medicine. After my Obstetrics & Gynecology
residency at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Oakland, I completed
a fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine at the University of California
at San Francisco, where I am now a Clinical Professor. I began practicing
medicine in 1980 and joined Kaiser Permanente in 1988. I am interested
in all aspects of pregnancy, especially prenatal diagnostic techniques
and high-risk conditions such as hypertension and diabetes. I am
always impressed with the magic of pregnancy and the courage of
women giving birth. I want to help pregnant women achieve happy
outcomes. I love the subspecialty practice I have had for the last
15 years at Kaiser and the opportunity to work closely with residents
and medical students. When not working, my wife Carolyn and I can
be found at our retreat in the Gold Country or chasing total solar
eclipses.
Gavin
Jacobson, MD - Assistant Program Director
I attended medical school at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine
in New York and completed my residency training at the University
of California, San Francisco. I started my medical practice with
Kaiser Permanente in 1991. My areas of special interest are many:
graduate and medical education, family planning, and dysplasia of
the lower genital tract. I am the Assistant Director of the Residency
Program, and I sit on the Continuing Medical Education committee.
I regularly attend a variety of conferences, including those of
the Pacific Coast OB/GYN Society and the Association of Professors
of Gynecology and Obstetrics.
At San Francisco Medical Center, I enjoy being part of such a cohesive
and dedicated group of professionals, as well as being challenged
and exposed to cutting edge treatment approaches. I like the diversity
of my patient population and, in general, I find a very professional
atmosphere here, together with a fine peer group. I enjoy teaching
in the residency program, and I also enjoy my patients. They tend
to be motivated and responsible people. Outside of the office, I
enjoy family-oriented activities, including caring for my children.
I keep healthy by trying to eat well and exercising when I can.
At work, I do often use the stairs instead of the elevator.
Steven Masters, MD - Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology
I
was born and raised in Los Alamos, New Mexico and in upstate New
York, then lived in San Diego, and settled here in the Bay Area
over 20 years ago. I received my medical degree from the University
of California at San Diego, and I completed my medical residency
right here at Kaiser San Francisco. I have been with Kaiser Permanente
since I began my medicine practice in 1987. My wife is a Professor
at UCSF, where I am also on the clinical faculty, and our two children
are in college in Maine.
I am interested in all aspects of women's health. I have a very
active practice here in both Obstetrics and Gynecology, with a special
interest in minimally invasive surgery (such as laparoscopic hysterectomy).
As a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology
and a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists,
I strive to keep up to date with the latest information and technology.
I also spend some of my time on administration, as the Chief of
the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, and as the Chief of Outpatient
Pharmacy and Therapeutics for the San Francisco facility.
While I do enjoy the high tech aspects of my work, I am actually
a big believer in the simple benefits of a healthy lifestyle with
plenty of exercise (I am an avid bicycle commuter myself). I especially
enjoy the multi-cultural aspects of a practice in San Francisco,
and serve on a number of committees and workgroups to promote diversity
awareness.
