Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center
Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center
Southern California Permanente Department of Research and Evaluation
The fellowship is based out of Kaiser Permanente
Los Angeles Medical Center (LAMC), which is a major tertiary referral center for Kaiser Permanente and serves millions of members. The hospital has 19 residency and fellowship programs, and hosts medical students from around the country. All major surgical and medical subspecialties are found at the LAMC. In fact, LAMC receives the most complex cases through referrals from its extensive network of surrounding Kaiser facilities.
Medical records are computerized and shared between the entire Southern California Kaiser system. Fellows have easy computer access to detailed patient reports including imaging studies, labs, pathology reports, dictations, appointments and pharmacy records. CT scans are viewable on the PACS system.
The West Los Angeles Medical Center is where the DaVinci 4S robot system is located. Typically the fellow will operate on the robot one day a week during his/her second year. This facility is located approximately 10 miles from LAMC.
At the Department of Research and Evaluation, headed by Steven J. Jacobsen, MD, PhD, the fellow will be involved in outcomes research during his/her first year. The projects take advantage of the computerized large database of the Kaiser population. The fellow learns to critically evaluate, design, and present research. The facility is located in Pasadena, also approximately 10 miles from LAMC.
