The goal of the Kaiser Permanente Fontana Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine is to produce new leaders who will teach excellent care of older persons and/or conduct aging-related research at medical schools, teaching hospitals, academic nursing homes, and other sites serving elderly individuals.  Most graduates will have a teaching or research career emphasis.

The one-year Kaiser Foundation Hospital geriatric residency educational program is organized to provide a superior educational experience in geriatric care in a managed care setting to postgraduate physicians.  The residents will gain the competency to manage the entire gamut of geriatric care and serve as a consultant to other medical providers.  Upon completion of the residency, the postgraduate physician will be able to sit for the Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Geriatric Medicine.
