About the Program
Residency training in Dermatology at Kaiser Permanente Southern California provides experience in all aspects of Dermatology, including general, medical, inpatient, pediatric, dermatopathology, Mohs surgery, lasers, and phototherapy. Based mainly out of Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center (LAMC), residents will be exposed to a wide breadth of pathology. In 2008, the LAMC dermatology department had seen 21390 unique patients for 33803 patient visits.
The residents will participate in the following specialty clinics that exist at Kaiser Permanente LAMC: regional-wide multidisciplinary vascular birthmark clinic; pediatric dermatology; laser for traumatic tattoo removal; pulsed dye laser; dermatopathology; and Mohs surgery. Research is an integral part of the program, and residents are required to publish at least one paper and present at least one project at a scientific meeting each year during their residency. Ongoing projects are discussed on a weekly basis, and guidance is provided by the faculty. If a resident presents a paper on the project at a national meeting, expenses are paid by the Medical Center.
Physicians who have completed one acceptable postgraduate year (PGY-1) are accepted for entry at the PGY-2 level. Two residents are accepted per year.
