About our Program

The Kaiser Permanente
Family Medicine Training
Program at Fontana
Medical Center embraces
a tradition of excellence
that began in 1975.
The training program
is based on an integrated
curriculum which stresses
our four pillars: ambulatory
care, academics, procedures,
and family.
Residents become a part of the largest clinical department in the Fontana Medical Center and enjoy the skilled teaching and support of faculty who are justifiably proud of our only in-house training program.
The faculty is stable,
committed to resident
education, and to Kaiser
Permanente. The patient
base is large, with
over 360,000 members
providing a wealth
of experience for our
residents. More than
250 board-certified
specialists provide
lectures, consultation,
and one-on-one elective
experiences to prepare
residents for any anticipated
practice setting.
The medical center’s
400 approved acute
beds include medical
and surgical ICUs,
a CCU, three high acuity
units, and four levels
of nursery care. Family
physicians have privileges
in all areas including
ICU, CCU, and obstetrics.
Self-contained – except
for cardiac surgery – the
center also has a model
chemical dependency
unit, a stroke rehab
and hospice area, a
trend-setting preventive
medicine facility,
and a state of the
art GI lab.
We are proud of our
place as one of the
three pioneer Family
Medicine residency
programs in managed
care settings, and
of our reputation as
the residency of choice
for those who want
to learn medicine within
the context of the
family.
