Medical Board of California Tips

Dr. Munzing is an Expert Reviewer for the Medical Board of California. In their monthly newsletter the MBC shared their concerns regarding an upward trend in administrative actions against physicians for their failure to keep adequate and accurate records. Health Connect should help us at Kaiser Permanente. The MBC recommends (and expects) documenting:

  • Any visit or consultation – informing the patient of his/her condition, intended                                          procedures, risks, hazards or alternative therapy
  • Any instructions given to the patient by telephone
  • Any warnings regarding prescription drugs that may interfere with a patient’s                                          occupation or driving
  • Surgical records need to be comprehensive and prompt
  • Instructions to patients on follow-up care
  • Pathology and x-ray reports
  • Justification for treatment
