We believe in Scholarships for

Scholarships
for people who care
about
their diverse communities
Kaiser Permanente encourages diversity
in the
medical profession throughout our programs
and practices. We plant seeds for future physicians by nurturing
students who are committed to providing culturally responsive care.
Dedicated to the promotion and advancement of culturally responsive
care, this scholarship honors medical/osteopathic students currently in their second or third year of medical school who intend to practice
in Southern California. The Oliver Goldsmith, MD, Scholarship
supports ongoing education for medical students while providing
them with opportunities for practical experience at Kaiser
Permanente facilities.
- Twelve $5,000 scholarships for medical students who have demonstrated
their commitment to diversity through community service, clinical
volunteering, or research
- Medical students participate in a mentoring program with a Kaiser
Permanente physician and participate in a four to six week clinical
rotation at a Kaiser Permanente facility
- Medical students have an opportunity to observe practicing physicians
delivering culturally responsive care, to participate in care delivery,
and to learn more about the communities they will be serving after
graduation
This scholarship also honors the work of Dr. Goldsmith, the retired chair of the Kaiser Permanente National Diversity Council. A champion of culturally responsive care, Dr. Goldsmith established the Southern California Permanente Medical Group Diversity Advisory Council. He also spearheaded the Culturally Responsive Care Initiative, which focuses on ensuring that physicians are prepared to meet the clinical, cultural and linguistic needs of their diverse patients.
